We are all pretty germophobic right now.
But one thing we can all agree on as a hotbed for the spread of germs is public bathrooms—and many of us are selective about what we will and won’t touch when we’re in one.
The problem is that we’ve been getting it all wrong: A 2011 study in the journal PLOS One found that if after washing your hands, you use them to open the door, you have a higher risk of contamination than if you flush the toilet with your bare fingers. Another shocker from the study? The toilet floor often has fewer germs than the soap dispenser!
