A Canadian study found that people who live in neighborhoods with retail shops and other services within walking distance have as much as a 50% lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes and are 54% less likely to be diagnosed with high blood pressure.
This is because people who live in walkable neighborhoods logged an average of 83 more minutes of walking per week than those in the least walkable areas. If you don’t live in a walkable area, lace up those tennis shoes and hit the gym or a park to get in those needed steps.
